Welcome to Professional Programs in Education
The Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult & Higher Education recently underwent a minor reorganization with the additon of social foundations of education faculty and courses to the department and with that adopted a new, more inclusive (and shorter!) name - the Department of Professional Programs in Education.
The Department of Professional Programs in Education still offers graduate programs in counseling (school and mental health), educational leadership for school administrators, and adult and higher education, plus provides courses in the psychological and social foundations of education for a variety of programs across campus. The department is also the administrative home for the Adult Education Academy for Professional Development, the Adult Learning Center, and MSU's Clearinghouse for Child Abuse Prevention. For more information on any of these programs, see the information and links below.
We are always happy to talk with students or prospective students who wish to study in one of our disciplines. Although there is considerable information within the pages of this website, you may wish to
meet with the department chair, the program leaders, or a member of the faculty.

Adult and Higher Education offers a graduate degree to prepare students for careers in working with adult learners in the community and in higher education settings. Admission to each of these programs is handled separately and each has its own admission criteria. Application must be made for a particular program before an applicant is considered for that program. Admission information is provided on the website under the individual programs in the department.
We are currently developing a track in this program that focuses on community college leadership. We anticipate that this track will be available entirely on-line.
The Adult Education Academy for Professional Development and the Adult Learning Center are both affiliates of this program.
